1205-LRAINER-The-Artist_full_600

Last weekend, I had the opportunity to view the movie “The Artist.”  Intrigued by the buzz it received at this year’s Golden Globes, I also wanted to see how a silent film is made today in the 21st century. My excitement did not go unwarranted: this movie is charming, engaging, and even presents a nice love story.
From the  first opening moments of “The Artist,” we the  audience are slowly drawn into the world of 1927′s Hollywood.  We see famous silent screen actor George Valentin basking in the glow of his latest premier. Excellently portrayed by …

Not Lana

Tuesday dawned to much anticipation in the music community, a day marked by the debut of internet video vixen Lana Del Rey’s first major label album after months of exhaustive debate about the songstress.
But for most of these breath-bated bloggers, it wasn’t because they liked her.
No, it was because they awaited what they hoped would be failure.
Hopes were dashed. Del Rey’s “Born to Die” has dropped squarely at the top of the iTunes sales chart. Moreover, British bookies are forecasting odds of 4-1 that Lana will topple English crooner Adele’s first …

AllenWestJupiter

Recently I’ve noticed a lengthy quote getting passed around Facebook. It’s from Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.), a former Army lieutenant colonel. In an excerpt from an email to a reporter, West scathingly chastises anyone critical of the Marines who allegedly urinated on the corpses of Taliban soldiers.
It’s a powerful and certainly unflinching reproach, I’ll say that much.
But, honestly, I wasn’t surprised to see Lt. Col. West call the complainers “over-emotional pundits and armchair quarterbacks.”
I also wasn’t angry that he told the public and the media to “shut your mouth” nor …

heyyou

HEY YOU is a pop/punk band from Los Angeles. Winners of the RAW Music Award for Musician of the Year, they have quickly become one of the bands to see on the Sunset Strip.  I recently got a chance to catch up with leader singer Kyle Tkatch, and the Hey You boys.
MIKE GAMMS: So you guys are a Pink Floyd cover band, right?
KYLE: (Laughs) No, we are not a Pink Floyd Cover band! We hear it every now and then from our older fans. Sometimes they will ask us, trying to …

newt-yodels

Mr. Newt Gingrich is feeling invigorated by the tongue-lashing given to CNN’s moderator John King, at the debate in Charleston last week. The audience rose to their feet more than once, while their beloved Newt gave the Yankee a good ol’ boy slam and also a slam to ABC News, the entire media (excluding FOX, of course). It is a contrary relationship Gingrich is nurturing. Yes, he needs the media to convey to his base … but no, you cannot get a word in edgewise–or a question–that his playbook doesn’t want excluded.
Welcome to …

Astro

There are some artists who come onto the Entertainment Scene at a young age and create fire just from a sampling of their talent.  An example of this would be in the viewing old video of singer Beyonce Knowles when she was with thegroup Destiny’s Child. Beyonce had a powerful voice, great stage presence, and also little known to some was a prolific writer of many of Destiny’s Child’s songs. Just as Beyonce showed talent at a young age,  fourteen year old rapper Brian “Astro” Bradley is doing just the …
